Almond Milk

Many people do not like the intake of milk and hence they opt for alternative like almond milk which along with being tastier, is also endowed with numerous health benefits. Almond milk is not milk in literal sense but is a milk substitute which is created by finely grinding almonds with water. The high protein content in this new popular health drink is comparable to milk and many people prefer the taste of almond milk to soy or rice milk. In addition, almond milk can also be prepared at home according to some specific taste and likes of the user.

Along with being tasty, almond milk is highly nutritious as it is rich in healthy antioxidant, Vitamin E, unsaturated fat and various other nutrients which aid in strengthening of the cardiovascular system and general immune system thereby leading to an enhancement of the overall health of a person. In addition, almond milk does not contain lactose and is thus easily digestible along with being a good alternative for people suffering from lactose intolerance.

This healthy drink can be purchased from market and can also be made at home through simple method. One can make vanilla flavored almond milk at home by using ingredients like 1 cup soaked almonds, 3 cups water, 1 vanilla bean, 3-5 soft pitted dates or any other sweetener. To begin the process, one should first blend the soaked almonds with water until smooth. Then strain the mixture through a sprout bag, cheesecloth or strainer into a big bowl and save the almond pulp in a container and put in the refrigerator for later use. One should then put the almond milk back into the blender carafe and blend in the vanilla seeds and dates or other sweetener until smooth. This milk will last in the refrigerator for about 3-5 days and one should shake well before using it. By using this simple method, one can easily make this healthy and nutritious drink at home.
