Aerobic versus anaerobic exercises

The definition of aerobic means with oxygen and anaerobes means without oxygen. This can be defined as basic difference between aerobic versus anaerobic exercises. During aerobic exercises the physical activity is so sustained that large amount of oxygen is required by the muscles..Muscles utilize oxygen to break down glucose into adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-it is the basic energy source for all cells in the body.

During initial stages of aerobic exercises, glycogen is converted into gluclose.Later when the glucose storage starts depleting then fat is burned as fuel. During anaerobic exercises, the muscles that being used do not require large amounts of oxygen Instead the body metabolize muscles glycogen to produce power. Glycogen is supplied by blood sugar which is manufactured by carbohydrates and amino acids present in liver.

The major difference between aerobic versus anaerobic exercises is that aerobic exercisers tones your muscle throughout your body and burns fat ,it is a long term process and requires time to give results where as anaerobic exercises benefits are brief and last for short term.

Aerobic exercises improve blood circulation, and lower blood pressure. They help in making heart stronger by pumping more blood into your heart, hence reduce the risk of heart attacks. They also increase red blood count. Whereas anaerobic exercises give you stronger bones, they increase muscles strength and power.

It is important to understand the different types of exercises that produce an aerobic vs. anaerobic effect. Anaerobic benefits are produced by brief, high-intensity activities, while in aerobic exercises; the effort is moderate with a steady heart rate.

Specific types of anaerobic exercises are Lawn Tennis, weight lifting, sprinting, jumping. While aerobic exercises are walking, running, swimming, cycling, cross-country, skiing, rowing. The best part of aerobic exercises is that they can be done at home also. You can easily jog or walk on your treadmill.
It is good to combine both aerobic and anaerobic exercises; it helps in maintaining overall health fitness.
