Aerobic exercises


Aerobic exercises may be defined as a workout of a particular muscle group, rhythmically. It is done for a definite time period of 15 to 20 minutes or longer while upholding 60-80% of maximum heart rate.

All the aerobic activities are longer in duration but low in intensity. The activities such as walking, running, swimming, biking, jogging, skiing etc are aerobic activities. Anaerobic activity is the one, which is brief in time period and high in intensity. The activities such as racquetball, downhill skiing, softball, soccer weight lifting, sprinting and football are anaerobic activities.

An aerobic exercise means work out with air or oxygen. If you are able to converse, while exercising it is aerobic exercise. In case, you are breathless and gasping for air while talking, you are exercising anaerobically. When you work anaerobically, you will tire faster and are more likely to experience sore muscles after exercise is over.

There are many cardiovascular benefits of aerobic exercises. Aerobic exercise promotes functioning of heart and lungs by increasing the oxygen availability. It aids by enabling heart to utilize oxygen more efficiently. Only workout cannot prevent or cure cardio vascular diseases. It is extremely beneficial in conditions such as high blood pressure, lessening risk factors of cigarette smoking and high cholesterol level.

Besides cardiovascular benefits there are many other benefits of aerobic exercises. Control of body fat by following aerobic exercise in combination with strength training and a proper diet is the foremost benefit. It increased stamina, resistance to ailments and recharges body with fresh energy. Aerobic exercise tones muscles and increases lean body mass. It is a stress buster and aid in sleeping. It has many psychological benefits too. It enhances mood, reduces depression and anxiety. But all this demands a consistent effort for a definite duration daily.
