aerobicburnfatWhen we think of aerobic activities we tend to think of the basics: jogging, walking or dancing.  These are all very beneficial forms of aerobic exercise known to increase our health and fitness levels.

But there is a new form of aerobic activity that is taking the gyms by storm.  It’s water aerobics.  All it takes is access to a pool or other body of water.

You can do it in your backyard if you have your own pool or you can go to a fitness facility that has a pool.  Water aerobics is beneficial to everyone.  It’s not just meant for those that have injuries or are older.

While water aerobics is not necessarily easier than forms of aerobics that are done on land, it does have less impact on your bones, joints and muscles.  When you take a water aerobics class, make sure that you stand in water that is no higher than your chest.

The cool thing about water aerobics is that anything you do on land for aerobic exercise can also be done in the water.

The biggest advantage to water aerobics is that it is low impact so you can do the activities that you would perform on land and perform them in the water with less impact on your body and still get the same results.

If you live somewhere where it is always hot, you’re in luck.  Not only will you be able to work out but the water will cool you down and you can work on your tan at the same time!  Water aerobics involves running, jumping and stretching but it can also include organized sports such as volleyball or water polo.

Your normal aerobic exercise routine can be done in the water.  The class will typically alternate between knee bends, resistance moves, jumping, and running in place.  You’ll work your entire body out without even realizing it or breaking a sweat.

If you want to get more out of your water aerobics class and want to increase your fitness level, incorporate some of the water aerobics equipment that you gym has.  If you are doing it at home, try some of the water aerobics videos that are out on the market.
