Advantages of Fruit Smoothies
Five helpings of vegetables and fruits are needed each day to keep ourselves healthy. This means we need to consume a bowl of them with each meal, the thought of that itself is discouraging.
So now there is an alternative called smoothies wherein the vegetables and fruits are mixed in some liquid and drunk.
Since the smoothie consists of fruits they are rich in minerals and vitamins. There is no specification or limit on the type of fruit that can be used. You can select based on your nutritional needs and tastes.
Whether the fruits are frozen or fresh doesn’t make a difference. Commonly used fruits are strawberries, bananas and blueberries.
Of the lot strawberry is widely known and most liked fruit. The recipe for strawberry smoothie is: blend a cup of strawberry with banana, lime juice, vanilla essence, water and cubes of ice.
Strawberry can be mixed with any fruit. Strawberry reduces the bad cholesterol and augments good cholesterol, maintains blood pressure and is also excellent for the heart. The antioxidant property of the fruit fights cell damage. It has very less calories and no sodium.
Banana with peanut butter makes an awesome combination. To prepare a banana smoothie you should blend in a blender for 20 seconds 2 bananas with some nuts, vanilla essence, a pear and some water.
This is a very healthy drink as it has minerals and potassium in it which helps the muscles to function well. It has fiber content which enable digestion. It regulates the level of acid in the stomach which reduces the chances of having stomach ulcer.
Blueberry is a very good antioxidant. Blueberry prevents urinary infection, cancer and constipation, slows down the aging process, promotes the function of the brain, helps in digestion, develops the immunity level etc.
Blueberry is full of zinc, selenium, vitamins and phosphorus. Blend a banana, lime juice, a medium cup of blueberries, vanilla essence with a cup of water and cubes of ice to get the healthy blueberry smoothie.
These smoothies are very healthy and supply our body with the necessary nutrients. We should know being healthy is in our hands, just that we should be ready to give up junk food and have a healthy lifestyle.
