Advantages of combining strength training and diet

strengthtrainingThere are many reasons why people diet. Some people do so because they want to lose weight; others do so because they want to improve their overall well-being.

Some do so for both reasons. But not everyone succeeds; they either don’t lose weight at all or they are not able to sustain the gains they made.

Two ways to lose weight

There are two ways to lose weight: less calorie consumption and exercise. This means that you can eat the same amount of food and lose weight if you exercise. The most effective way of losing weight is combining exercise and diet.

Strength training is one of the best forms of exercise to help lose weight. Strength training in addition to making strong muscles burns more calories and fat than aerobic exercise.

This does not mean that overweight people should not perform aerobic exercise. It has a place in the exercise routine; the routine should also include strength training.

Strength training will not bulk you up

A lot of people, especially women, don’t want to do strength training because they think it will make them bulk up, giving them unnatural looks. This notion about strength training is unrealistic. Only serious bodybuilders gain muscles that most people are afraid of.

A better look

Strength training will help you achieve a lean body and also, help you lose that fat layer that makes you overweight. You end up having the right proportion of body mass and fat.

What this means is that you will be thinner, but you will have the strength and muscle that you had during your overweight days.

Those who follow a rapid weight loss plans will lose not only the fat they dread but also a considerable amount of body mass. The consequence is reduced metabolism and loss of bone density.

On the other hand, strength training, in addition to speeding up the rate of weight loss, has other advantages some of which are as follows:

1. It builds your bones and makes them stronger. This gives you a natural protection against osteoporosis.

2. Strength training increases your endurance level thus you have more energy for other activities.

3. Your muscles get toned up so you have a better physique and a better look.

4. It is true that the better you look, the more confidence you have.
