A Good Rest is Worth More than You Think

The rest period that you may require in between sets and reps will probably be different than the guy next to you in the gym. Resting in between gives your muscles a chance to heal and repair but if you wait too long between rests then your muscles won’t stay on their toes so to speak.

Having a well timed rest in between your exercises is important so that your body can do its job. As you get stronger, your rest periods will be longer. When you first start out, you will not need as long of a rest period. Also, if you decide to do supersets, you will only have a 30 second or so rest period in between sets. Depending on the amount of weights and the type of workout that you are doing will make a difference in the length of time you take between sets.

If you are looking at this from a practical aspect, then when training with heavy weights you want to have 3 to 6 minutes of rest in between. You also have to account for the amount of sets that you are doing as well as the amount of reps. This has to fall into the equation. When using lower weights for shape then the rest periods can be shorter which means only up to 4 minutes of rest is okay.

As said, you need to take into account the amount of reps and sets for your workout. You also have to account for the type of workout that you are doing whether it is strength training or definition workout will also make a difference.

Remember that everyone’s body is different and will heal and repair itself differently. The amount of time given here in between sets and reps is an approximate amount of time. Listen to your body for it will talk to you and tell you what it needs and wants. Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids before during and after your workout. Keeping your body hydrated will keep your body in working condition.
