A Comparison of Nutritious Food and Junk Food

The fast food industry is taking off and enticing both the old and young.  “Junk food” such as pizzas and fries are too tantalizing for children to stay away from.  Fruits and vegetables are just not as appealing as a burger and fries for children.

But the truth of the matter is that as enticing, comforting or tasty as junk food is, it provides no health benefit to our bodies.  Junk foods are filled with fat and calories and have little or no nutritional value.  This article was written after discussing the pros and cons of healthy foods and junk foods with medical professionals.

Junk food is a quick way to get energy but it is also coupled with additional, unnecessary calories.  Unlike healthy foodst, junk foods do not supply your body with the proper nutrients needed to function adequately.

Healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, leans meats and fish provide not only an energy source for your body but also the proper amount of vitamins and nutrients that you body needs to perform at its optimum.  High fat junk foods are the leading cause of obesity.

If you’re looking for a quick burst of energy followed by a slow, groggy feeling, then feel free to indulge in junk foods.  But if you’re looking for immediate energy that carries on throughout the day, try eating something healthy.  Healthy food increases and maintains stamina.

Healthy foods also help you focus and make you more productive.  Because junk foods are so heavily laden with fat, they slow down your metabolism and cause your energy and concentration to become depleted.  Whereas healthy food will keep you energized, junk food will leave you tired.

Another huge negative about junk foods is that they are high in bad cholesterol.  Bad cholesterol stays in the body in the form of fatty deposits that line the arteries and eventually harm the liver.  Healthy foods promote good cholesterol.

By eating healthy, you are strengthening your body and giving it the proper nutrients to defend it in a time of illness.  People who maintain a healthy diet reportedly fall ill less than those that eat junk food.  Eating junk food as your primary method of nourishment will lead to diseases and illnesses because your body is being deprived of its needed nutrients.
