5 super foods you do not know about
What to have on the New Year eve? Same old dishes! Want to try something new? It is not always necessary to go for spinach and salmon for a healthy diet. There are many rich dishes for the eve that you might not be aware of. Apart from the conventional known food, try something new. Some of the foods that you can incorporate to make your food delicious and healthy are listed hereunder.
Quinoa
Quinoa is a protein rich grain and has been termed as “super grain” by many nutritionists. It is a grain which is derived from a seed of the plant which is somewhat related to spinach. Its origin lies in North America. Quinoa contains an amino acid called lysine, which is absent in other grains. The other ingredients of quinoa are vitamin B6, thiamin, niacin, potassium, and riboflavin. It is very easy to prepare the dish of quinoa. Rinse the grain thoroughly. Toast the grains in a fry pan and add oil, spices and water. Also add nuts, fruits, and cheese to add flavor.
Amaranth
This is also a protein rich food. The seeds of amaranth are derived from the amaranth plant. It also contains lysine, thus superseding other grains. It has more proteins than milk and is extremely rich in vitamin A and C, calcium, potassium and phosphorus. It acts as a supplement to other dishes like pastas, macaronis, bread etc.
Tempeh
It comes from fermented soybeans. Soybeans are inoculated with a culturing agent and incubated. A solid cake like substance is thus derived. It is also rich in protein and has less fats, cholesterol and calories.
Seaweed
Seaweed, also called as sea vegetables, are neither animal nor plant products. They are algae found in freshwater and saltwater. Seaweeds have plenty of vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, and iron. It also contains plenty of minerals. It has fewer calories. Seaweeds can be served on the top of salads or soups.
Kale
Kale is an anti cancer food. It is a green leafy vegetable like cabbage. It helps in reducing the risk of cataract. It is rich in vitamin A, B, C, and E, manganese, iron, calcium and copper. It is also a low calorie food and has less fat. Cook it with spices, oil and onions and serve as a side dish.
So, just move from the old traditional foods and try any of the above foods for a change.
