18 Common diet mistakes

If you are trying hard to get rid of those extra pounds and if they seem to have taken a liking to you, then you might be making some common diet mistakes. Read on to find out.

1. No breakfast: This is the most common and silliest mistake of all. Breakfast helps to kick-start your metabolism so that you start burning calories early on in the day and it keeps you full till lunch so that you do not overeat.

2. No idea what you ate: It is vital that you know what you are eating. If you do not give attention to this then you will stuffing yourself with all kinds of junk while leaving out the good food.

3. Gorge low-fat snacks:  Remember even if they are low-fat, they do have fat. Therefore, do go easy on them so that your purpose is served.

4. Avoid water: However much you try to avoid this issue, it will come up. Think about this, you can mistake thirst for hunger and overeat if you are dehydrated.

5. Have fruit juice instead of fruits: Whole fruit has fiber whereas fruit juice misses that one out. Whole fruit will give you a full feeling so that you can avoid overeating at meals.

6. Have veg food: While the actual vegetables might not have so many calories and fat, the dishes do. Therefore, go instead for grilled or steamed veggies.

7. Take fish sandwich to be safe:  Fish is absolutely good. However, it’s cooked, breaded, fried and drenched in mayonnaise before it goes in a sandwich.

8. Keep away from snacks:  This is a terrible misconception because if you do eat a little between meals, it will prevent you from overeating at meals.

9. Avoid dessert: Do not deprive yourself or you are likely to overeat when you can.

10. Go for wraps: This is no healthy sandwich. The tortillas are 300-400 calories and along with all the toppings and dressings they make up a diet nightmare.

11. Do not take fat: Your daily intake should not exceed 30%, however, you do need fats mainly for nutrient absorption and to feel satisfied and full. You can avoid the unhealthy ones but take the healthy fats like omega 3 fatty acids found in fish.

12. Avoid carbs:  Just like fat, you should not avoid carbs altogether. You might be risking yourself for a coronary heart disease.

13. Starve yourself: There is nothing more wrong than this. You starve yourself and the first reaction of your body is store whatever energy it gets as fat. Additionally, you might risk having gallstone and cardiac complications.

14. Unrealistic goals: Set real goals that are achievable. If you are able to achieve a goal, it will provide positive motivation to keep going.

15. Eat more because you work out: You should track your calories so that you do not put in more than you burn. If you are doing that then you will not lose weight.

16. Eat fast: If you eat too fast, then you are bound to overeat because it takes 20 minutes for the brain to realise that you are full.

17. Eat all: You should control and measure your portions to maintain your weight loss.

18. Lots of coffee: It can cause dehydration and disturb sleep patterns. Therefore, it is better to drink water instead.
