The fountain of youth or the medicine for eternal life is yet to be discovered. However, till then we can fight age off with some incredible foods available to us as easily as going to our nearest supermarket.

1. Apples

They are loaded with anti-oxidants, especially quercetin, and are also rich in soluble fibers like pectin. The anti-oxidants help to fight blood clots and cancer while the pectin reduces cholesterol levels and removes carcinogens from the blood.

Eat them raw and do not leave out the skin because the skin contains the quercetin.

2. Avocados

They contain an enormous amount of fiber and even more potassium than bananas. They are great to fight high blood pressure, heart disease and colon cancer. They keep your skin soft.

Eating them raw is the best way. You can use them with tomatoes, lime juice, jalapeno peppers and salt to make a mean guacamole.

3. Bananas

These delicious fruits are rich in potassium, magnesium and folate. This makes them good for fighting high blood pressure. It also prevents heart disease and cancer. Folate facilitates tissue growth.

Eat them raw.

4. Eggs

Eggs are choline, protein, lutein and zeaxanthin rich. This helps in memory retention in old age and prevents cataracts.

Hard-boil them, soft-boil them, poach them; do whatever while avoiding excess butter and oil.

5. Garlic

This is an extremely rich in antioxidants. It is a blood anti-coagulant and helps reduce strokes. It also helps to treat cancer.

Most beneficial if eaten raw, it can be crushed and added to a salad dressing.

6. Kidney beans

It has loads and loads of soluble fiber. It helps maintain a healthy digestive system and prevent colon cancer.

You can have them dried and canned or add them to a chilli.

7. Walnuts

It has a lot of omega 3 fatty acids. It prevents blood clots and heart disease. It also helps to treat arthritis and depression.

You can eat them fresh, sprinkle them over a salad or stir-fry.

8. Tofu and soy products

They are rich in the plant hormones isoflavones. It reduces the LDL cholesterol and hence, heart disease.

The best source of soy is firm tofu. You can use it with stir fries and make it delicious.

9. Red wine

It is rich in anti-oxidants like catechins and a polyphenol. They help to reduce cancer risk and also reduce the cholesterol levels in the body.

One or two glasses per day will prove to be helpful.

10. Spinach

It has just as many antioxidants as garlic and is also rich in folic acid, vitamin A and C. It puts up a great fight against heart disease, cancer and mental disorders.

Raw spinach and steamed spinach are equally fine.

11. Fennel

This one is rich in vitamin A, calcium, potassium and iron. It proves a great help in relieving digestive problems. It keeps your skin and nails healthy and prevents fatigue and anemia.

You can eat fennel in a number of different ways, you can have it raw, steamed, sautéed or braised.
