TOMATO RAITA

Ingredients

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 4 cups fresh tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • ½ tsp black mustard seeds
  • 5 curry leaves, fresh preferably
  • 1-pinch hing
  • 1 small handful cilantro, chopped
  • ½ small green chili, chopped
  • ¼ tsp salt

Method –

Firstly wash tomatoes, and chop them medium fine. Gently mix them with yogurt and set aside. On the other hand heat small pan on medium fire and put in the ghee. When hot, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves followed by hing. Wait until seeds pop up. Add the cilantro and chili. Stir and take off from the fire.

Pour the spices into the tomato and yogurt mixture. Add the salt and mix carefully as it should not mix together fully. Serve one to two tsp full to a person.

Medicinal value –

At first sight, it never seems good combination. As it may come under the ‘wrong or the opposite or incompatible’ food. But this could be the best example of how the right combination of spices and herb can help to balance incompatible food. This helps in digestion and also adds taste to your food.
