The Dhirubhai Ambani Engineering College is officially known as the Dhirubahi Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology or DA-IICT. DA-IICT is located near the Indroda Circle in Gandhinagar in the state of Gujarat in India. Through a State Act of Gujarat, DA-IICT today is a fully fledged private University by status and is recognized by UGC. DA-IICT was established in the year 2001 and in the memory of late Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of the Reliance Group. The University does not receive any kind of financial assistance or aid from the State or the Central Government.
DA-IICT offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral level programs in the field of Information and Communication Technology. DA-IICT does not offer any management related courses. The undergraduate program on offer at DA-IICT includes the four year Bachelor of Technology degree program in Information and Communication Technology.
The degree program also requires students to undertake more than one summer and/or winter internship programs. The area of specializations for the B.Tech program includes the following - VLSI Design and Analysis, Software Development, Communication Engineering, Distributed Systems and Computer Systems. Any student who has completed the 10+2 education system with core subjects such as Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and/or Computer Science can apply for a seat at DA-IICT.
Post Graduate programs on offer at DA-IICT include the following – Master of Technology in Information and Communication Technology, Master of Science in Information Technology, Master of Science in Information and Communication Technology in Agriculture and Rural Development, Master of Design in Communication Design and the PhD degree program.
For the Master of Technology degree program, students need to complete one year of research work under a qualified guide and submit their thesis. Majority of students of the M.Tech program get financial help from the University in the form of research assistantship or fellowship. DA-IICT also offers a five year integrated B.Tech/M.Tech degree program in Information and Communication Technology which is purely research intensive. There are only ten seats for this dual degree program and students are usually selected from the B.Tech (ICT) course.
The M.Sc in IT degree is a two year program and includes one internship program during the final semester. The Master of Science in ICT with focus on Agricultural and rural development is a unique action research based course and has two internship programs. The Master in Design degree is a two year program with specialization in the following two areas - Visual Communication Design and interactive Communication Design. Graduate students from any discipline can apply for this program at DA-IICT.
The PhD degree program at DA-IICT has the following eligibility criteria – Students with M.Tech or M.E degree or B.Tech/B.E degree or with MCA/M.Sc Computer Science degree with courses such as Information and Communication Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications, Telecommunications etc and above 60% marks or M.Phil degree holders in Arts, Humanities or Social Sciences with above 60% marks can apply.
Call for admissions for the above degree programs by DA-IICT is usually made during the months of December to March every year. Admissions are based on AIEEE rank for the undergraduate program and based on GATE score for the post graduate programs.
