Dead Nation Video Game Review

Housemarque the gaming company which brought out Super Stardust has released its latest offering titled Dead Nation exclusively for PlayStation 3. The game is one of the many zombie shooting games on offer yet manages to hook the player’s interest thanks to superb visual effects and engrossing gameplay.

The basic storyline of the game revolves around the fact that the player is the only one in a land choc a bloc full of zombies of various kinds and you have to kill the hordes of walking dead before they kill you. The game keeps the player interested by throwing in various sorts of zombies from all directions; there are regular zombies, soldiers and cop zombies, dead patients in their hospital gowns, guy and girl next door zombies and even baby zombies who spit acid.

However, the munitions store needed for so many kinds of zombies is also varied and powerful. With each level progression the number of weapons available for purchase also increases. One also has the option of upgrading their weapon of choice a number of times to up its efficacy. The early levels start off with a plain rifle which can soon be replaced by much more effective and slick weaponry which includes chain lightning gun and a canon which fires blades to cut up the walking dead. Other weapons to kill many zombies with a single blast include grenades, flares, land mines etc.

Zombie shooter games are definitely fun but can get a bit repetitive. To solve this problem, the game comes with support for online and local co-op for up to two players. The scoring system is generous as the score multiplies both as the number of walking dead you slay and with the number of levels you ascend in a single sitting though.

The game keeps you on your toes throughout with secrets hidden under piles of debris left over from explosions. The soundtrack goes well with the perfectly constructed locations with realistic light and shade effects. This is a must play game for lovers of zombie games and will keep players engrossed till the very finish.
