Shingles is caused by a virus which is known as herpes varicella-zoster virus or simply zoster virus. It is a disease which is caused by the revival of an infection which had formerly affected the body caused by the same virus.
This virus is also known as chicken pox virus. The virus affects the nerves of the body and the area surrounding it which shows on the skin as small reddish rash like eruptions.
Causes of Shingles
Even though chicken pox is a disease which people have during their childhood, shingles may attack with growing age.
As said earlier it happens if one has primarily had chicken pox. It is the reactivation of the zoster virus which remained latent in the body after one had had chicken pox.
If one had consumed medicines which are used to destroy and eradicate cancer cells then this may also result in the reactivation of the zoster virus.
Chronic diseases which cut down the strength of the immune system of the bosy can aid to the resurrection of the zoster virus and cause shingles.
Radiation therapy is the process of using X-rays of high intensity to destroy cancer cells present in the body and to kill the effect of tumors by shrinking them. It is a standard treatment that a person diagnosed with any type of cancer undergoes.
This is another factor which may cause the disease by reactivating the zoster virus. If one does not take and follow proper nutrition then that person may get affected by shingles disease.
This makes the immune system feeble. Hence, it is imperative to follow a proper routine of nutrition to strengthen your immune system and thereby avoid this disease or to keep the zoster virus from getting activated again.
One may have had an organ failure which has been followed by an organ transplant. There are chances of one getting affected with shingles as a result of this process. As during this process the doctor gives his patients immunosuppressive drugs which cause the immune system to weaken. Hence, the revival of the virus takes place.
