You are not lucky enough like Sean Connery with that trimmed though mesmerizing beard who looked so dashing in the ‘Entrapment’ with Catherine Zeta Jones. You need to clean-off your hairs on the face! But then, many men across the world find it difficult when shaving, instead of soothing, burns the skin. Here are few of the shaving tips that will make this episode enjoyable and not troublesome!

Tips before shaving

One should not shave when the skin is dry since it turns razor to burn and produce red slashes all over the chin and cheeks. Therefore, first cleansing the face properly using warm or hot water (or if there is no time, splashing some hot water) is advisable. This softens the beard and helps opening up the pores.

An adequate amount of moisturize is to be applied before shave. Next comes is using a gentle, creamy shaving lotions. They soften the hair and makes shaving easy. Many men health and beauty experts believe that it is recommend using Aloe vera shaving gel or cream that should contain other combination of natural ingredients. Massaging the shaving cream or gel onto the area to be shaved is essential since they get you the best results and prevents drying.

One should not contain shaving foam, gel and product that contain agents like benzocaine or menthol. They might give a great lathery experience but can really dry and irritate the facial skin and can shut the pores and stiffen the beard.

Tips during shaving

One should go for hot water or lukewarm water during shaving. It will help to soften the beard and it opens pores and cleanses the skin. One should make sure that the shaving razor is sharp since old and/or blunt blades cuts the skin and spoil shaving. They literally rub the skin and might produce rashes later. For a good shaving control, the handle of the razor is to be heavier.

Always first, shaving in the same direction as hair growth is mandatory. This will prevent in-growth to a greater extent. Then re-lather and shave somewhat against the direction of hair-growth. This would give you close-shaving experience.

A man should use short stroke as a better option than long ones since they drag and cannot get you cleaner shave. One should not apply excessive pressure on the shaving razor since this causes the skin burn and irritation. Instead, glide it softly across the face. Each time, rinse the razor in the lukewarm water.

Tips after shaving

Finish your shaving by washing off the entire face with cool water. This closes the skin pores. Then later, using a skin toner for removing any residue will close the pores and reenergize the facial skin. If by mistake, there are some cuts; using moistened alum block stops the bleeding. One should apply a moisturizing aftershave lotion onto the shaved area but be careful – avoid alcohol-based aftershaves lotions as such lotions might dry the skin.

At last, go for some moisturizers made up of natural herbs over the face and neck. This keeps the skin firm and supple or simply make an application of an after shave cream that helps keeping the skin moist and fresh with protection from sunrays/UV rays.

Some general shaving tips

Do not rush for shaving first thing in the morning. Take some rest; get a chance for your skin and face to wake up. Spend some time and hence, the natural puffiness of the face would go!

Try to be a new man – one should go for exfoliation the skin with some facial cleansers or scrubs for eradicating dead skin cells.

One should not be lazy now. Keep rinsing the blade in lukewarm water whenever you finish one stroke. Rinsing water should be in mug that contains disinfectant lotion or antiseptic lotion.

Always use towel or cloth that is made up of cotton while wiping off after the shaving. Keep your razor in a pack where the blades are not in contact with air. Blades, or else, would start being rust.
