Eyeshadow is used in eye makeup to enhance the shape of the eyes. With a proper selection of Eyeshadow, you can give more meaning to your eyes. There is a technique to apply Eyeshadow. The lightest shade of eyeshadow must be applied on the entire area from the lash line to the brow. This lightest shade will serve as base for the next shade eyeshadow application. Apply the medium color shade of eyeshadow on it and then the darkest shade in the last. This will make your eyes look deeper. If you want your eyes to appear closer then apply the light eyeshadow on the entire eyelid and then apply a medium color eyeshadow on the inner half of the eyelid. You can apply eyeshadow either with the help of the brush or applicator.

Eyeshadow is available in various colors and it comes either in a cream form or a powder form. Powder shadows are better, as it can be applied easily with the brush. You must buy the eyeshadow shades, which have neutral tones like brown, pink or a dark purple. You can even try other colors like green, yellow and orange too. The eyeshadow is applied to make the eye the center of attraction. Depending upon your eye color and the dress you are going to wear, you must choose the eyeshadow. The eyeshadow should also match with your entire face makeup. But take care not to shade the eyelid heavily. Try to keep the eye look as much natural as possible. There is no rule that when one should use cream eyeshadow or powder eyeshadow. Cream eyeshadow can be applied on the eyelids in just one stroke but it can glide off within few hours of the application. To prevent it apply translucent powder after applying the cream eyeshadow.

Facts related with eyeshadow application:

The dark color eyeshadow will deepen the features of the eye while the light color eyeshadow will make the eye stand out. Hence choose the colors carefully. If you are applying too dark colors, then it should be applied properly as it draws instant attention. The heavily applied eyelids look unnatural and hence the application should be limited. You can experiment with bright shades of the eyeshadow. If you have blue eyes, then stay away from the blue eyeshadow. Instead try brown color eyeshadow. If you have green eyes, then go for khaki or brown shades.

Types of Eyeshadows:

  • Dark color - You have to apply dark shades only to the eyelids from the lashline to the crease in the eyelid.
  • Medium color – You will have to apply this below the eyelid crease to the browbone.
  • Lightest color - This is used to highlight the eyelids. You will have to apply it to the browbone and you can extend it little past the outer end of the eyebrow.

Steps to apply eyeshadow:

    • First apply a light color eyeshadow on your eyelid from the lash line to the brow. You can apply the eyeshadow by using a flat eyeshadow brush. If your brush is good in quality, then only you will be able to apply the eyeshadow evenly.
    • After this apply medium color eyeshadow on your eyelid from the lash line to the crease of your eye. With the fluff brush this can be easily done.
    • Apply the darkest color eyeshadow in the last. Apply it along the lash line. To make the eyeshadow last for longer duration, apply the color with wet eyeliner brush.

Mostly all the professional makeup artists recommend that when you are applying an eyeshadow, first you should put extra loose powder under the eyes. For if in case any eyeshadow particle falls, it can be easily removed. After the application of the eyeshadow you can easily remove it with the help of a large makeup brush. If you will apply the eyeshadow color with a wet brush, then it will remain for a longer time and will remain crease proof too. In case you feel that you have applied extra eyeshadow and it is looking intense, then you can tone the color down by applying face powder over the eyelid or by gently wiping the eyelid with a foundation sponge.
