Introduction and causes of Blackheads

Blackheads are nothing but the clogged pores that get filled with some unwanted and bad materials such as extra oils’ deposit and dead skin cells. Blackheads usually appear onto the oily skin. Many of the beauty experts consider that they are warning signs to have acne and pimples in coming hours or days. Hence, blackheads need to treated as quick as possible.

In other terminology, Blackheads are the follicles having wider opening than the normal and therefore, they are also called as open comedones and are often there because of overactive sebaceous glands. Blackheads can appear on the face, back, and torso and other parts of the body that have dense sebaceous glands. The blackhead is plugged with sebum and sloughed off cells and they undergo some chemical reactions that result in the oxidation of melanin, a color giving agent in the skin. The residue formed in the follicle is basic factor to provide black color to the blackhead

Blackheads home remedies

One can simply use green tea that can serve as face scrub. This loosens blackheads and helps removing them.

Eat enough quantity of fresh fruits and honey. To augment the therapy, one can also add some yogurt. Scrub the face for about 8 minutes and later rinse the face off and pat it dry. It is proven beneficial home remedy for blackheads.

Another homemade remedy for such condition is using fresh mint juice. Just apply the fresh mint juice onto the face all the nights for the treatment of pimples.

Some of the ancient science such as Ayurveda suggests applying the paste of nutmeg made with water as very effective treating any sort of pimples.

The paste of 5gm each – red sandalwood and raw turmeric with little added milk is effective when applied locally.

One can simply apply a paste made of ground radish seed and little water onto the affected area.

Grandma’s home remedy for blackhead is taking one tbsp each of curds, multani clay powder and mint powder. Soak the clay and mint powder in curds for about 30 minutes and then blend it well to form a paste. Apply this medicated paste onto the face for about 10 minutes. When it becomes dry, wash it off with lukewarm water that must follow by a cold-water wash. This is an idealistic mask for blackheads on oily skin.

To prepare egg remedy, take one egg white, 1 tsp of multani clay powder, some drops each of peppermint extract and plain water. Soak multani clay’s powder in the water for about 30 minutes. Beat the egg and mix with all the components well together. Mix the soaked multani clay’s powder in the mixture. Apply this onto the face for about half an hour and rinse it off with lukewarm water. This is also a good mask for oily skin.

If one has a patchy skin make this homemade face pack - take 1 tbsp each of curds and multani clay and 1 tsp of mint powder. Soak multani clay in curds for about 30 min, and then add mint in it. Apply the paste onto your face. Keep it till turns dry and then rinse off with lukewarm water followed by a wash by plain water.

Prevention is always better than cure and hence, one has to prevent blackheads occurrence. Medical science says that one should not remain constipated in order to prevent blackheads and acne. It is therefore advisable to have some natural purgatives such as Psyllium husk, green leafy vegetables that contain enough roughage or some herbal formula such as triphala. However, here are few of the tips to prevent blackhead to occur –

One should use gentle and water-soluble cleansers.

Take care that you don’t touch your face throughout the day.

Try using the acne products or medication as less as possible if the skin is getting too bothered, reddened or dried. The skin takes time to adapt to the new medicines.

Try to avoid tanning materials; instead wear sunscreen. Some acne products and treatments increase the sensitivity of the skin to sunrays and UV light.

Cover the skin with cotton cloth before going out in the dirty or polluted areas.
