Whether one wants to get rid of those gray hairs or one just wants to get some newer look or stylish appearance, hair color is a good way to get it. Unfortunately, hair coloring entails results that might damage and dry the natural hair when used unsuitably. The selected colors of the hair colors should exactly match with the original colors of the hair and even eyebrows for enhancing the overall facial features.

Experimenting is good, but hair colors could be rough on the hair while used frequently. Although it is best to color with a professional salon or hairstylist, it is very cheap at home with the same creative effects. Before one sees the top hair color mistakes, it is essential to have to understand the different types of hair dyes those are available so one can put them in context.

Hair must be slightly moist while coloring is performed. Choosing a color one shade lighter while coloring the hair roots is important. This makes the transition from the colored hair back to body’s original hair color enhanced not involving roots those are entirely different color sticking out. Clearly, this rule doesn’t apply if one is coloring the hair a completely different color than body’s original hair color.

Beginning of the mistakes while coloring hair

Protecting the skin by swathing cotton made towel around the neck as a color can irritate that tender skin or affect the clothes is thing to be remembered. One should not try to startle and rush finding solutions that might cause even more damage. Many people try fixing their color problems themselves at home and often commit the problem which would be worse and can really hurt the hair beyond repairing.

One should avoid the seduction for adding more colors or try for removing the color at home with bleaches or other harsh chemical. Gloves are to be worn and must be kept in a hair color kit. To apply petroleum jellies or creams near the ears and neck part keeps off stains.

Coloring eyebrows and eyelashes

Hair color mistakes does not restrict to the coloring of the hair present onto the scalp. Mistake also seen while selecting a color that does not match the natural eyebrow and eyelash color is also seen oftentimes. After dying, one should wash with cold or tepid water for avoiding the own hair from falling out. Always check for allergic contents in hair color pack. Another mistake seen is hair coloring the entire head without testing little amount of the hair first.

Most common hair color mistakes

  1. To apply dye to dirty and tangled hair. This is most common mistake. Doing this would make hair to become dirtier and the color shade may not properly appear what exactly it is.
  2. To stain the skin or apparels is also one of the commonest mistakes.
  3. To pickup a color that does not suit with body’s original hair color.
  4. To dying eyebrows and eyelashes altogether with hair color on the head.
  5. To choose hair dye, looking at the model appearing on product’s box.
  6. Selecting too light color does not serve the purpose of coloring the hair and it may also not last long.
  7. Not wearing hair band that ties hair back.
  8. Always thinking that hair color is never permanent.
  9. Using some hair conditioners before hair coloring. This is very important step to remember for anyone who wants to color hair. Using some hair conditioners before hair color would ruin up the hair texture and then hair color may not serve the purpose you want.
  10. After coloring not rinsing the hair with cold or tepid water that can really avoid the body’s own hair to falling out
  11. Over dying or coloring the hair. This makes people to think that the more color they apply, the more it would last long. This is not true, appropriate application of even small amount of hair color would last long more than layers of hair color applied improperly.

Ok, I dyed my own hair. I've been going to a salon but I thought I would save money. Well, I got a color that is so dark, it's almost black. I want a new rich brown. How do I lighten it without having to re-dye it? HELP
