Dandruff comprises of scaly particles having an oily sheen that lie in closer to the hair root. The condition should not be confused with that of a flakyscalp. Dandruff is a condition wherein the natural process of shedding of the skin cell has gone out of control for one or the other reason. The precise cause of dandruff has remained a mystery but some healthcare providers believe it is the result of bad diets or illnesses, others state that it is fungal infection . Another thing that confuses the dandruff with a condition is known as a very dry scalp.

Just a thought of the snowfall on a black jacket brings around the mind to imagine of the dreadful dandruff threat. It is a skin disorder, which results in overproduction of shiny, silvery scales those get separated from the scalp and collected amidst the hair. When the infection spreads to the skin, the condition may become even more difficult.

Causes and symptoms of dandruff

A clear cut indication of dandruff is to have an itchy scalp with scales that keep falling onto the forehead, shoulders, especially when someone shakes the head or comb/brush the hair. Severe cases might complain of dandruff scales that appear like lumps or crusts onto the scalp. Dandruff is associated with impaired general wellbeing and overall health, improper dietary habits, constipations and low immunity that has malfunctioning because of the development of toxic conditions or communicable diseases.

Another probable cause of dandruff includes emotional tensions, harsh shampoos, general exhaustions and over-exposure to chilly and heat weathers.

The prevention of dandruff

Many healthcare expert advice people suffering from frequent episodes of dandruff and associated skin problems for restricting their intake of strong teas/coffees, pickles, refined and processed foods and meats, white flour-items and sugar as well. Rather, people having dandruff problems should bring up intake of plain water, dark green leafy vegetables and fruits to keep body in hydration and dry, scaly scalp and that unwanted ugly snowfall at bay.

Here are the points to remember

Keeping hair and scalp clean is good method avoiding accumulation of dead cells and is said to be the best dandruff prevention technique.

Brush hair daily for improving circulation and removing any surface flakiness. The correct way to do this would be bending forward from the waist with the head facing downwards at the ground and brush in upward strokes, from the nape to the crest of the head.

To massage the scalp regularly before brushing the hair would help the hair follicles to breathe as it will stimulate the circulation, dislodges dusts and dandruff and encourages healthy hair growth.

One should avoid unnecessary exposure of the head to the sunrays as the heat can turn havoc with the scalp and result in overproduction of oils those can block pores and cause dead cells for accumulating and resulting in dandruff.

Home Remedies for Dandruff

Scalp rejuvenating fenugreek seeds are very useful. It is the way to go if you really need yourself to get rid of dandruff. For this, take 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds soaked overnight in plain though fresh water and ground into a fine paste in next morning. This is to be applied all over the scalp and left for about ½ hour. This would be followed by a thorough head bath with soap-nut (aritha) solution or shikakai for washing that dandruff straight out of the hair.

Lime and lemony treats for dandruff menace- extracted juice of a fresh lime in the final rinse while washing the hair makes the hair glossy and free from oiliness while cutting down the dandruff.

Cider vinegar diluted with same amounts of water and dabbed on the scalp along with hair using cotton wool make the trick beating dandruff problems.
