What is it?

A foot massage is nothing but the procedure of special massage that is done by rubbing the foot with some cream, lotion or oil. Lanolin, olive oil, sesame oil, cocoa butter or any body cream/lotion can be used. There are also lotions or oils made especially for the foot massage. One thing to be noted is one should always ask a receiver if he or she is allergic to any particular ingredient or product or oil before using it. There are some natural and/or herbal products that one can buy those are specially made to give foot massages. A foot massage is to be given only after the foot has been cleaned properly.

Why is it necessary?

Each of the human foot has twelve different muscles. The muscles are projected for supporting the weight of the entire body and providing a movable platform on almost every surface. Having the feet massaged, it helps receiver to be relaxed and researches also reveal that foot massage can improve blood flow within the organ. Tender areas or areas wherein muscles are tightened or cramped feel bettered after being massaged.

According to Thai traditional healing experts, foot Massage is a massage of the lower legs and feet, which includes hands on stretching and massage to clear Sen (energy) Lines, along with using a stick that stimulates the reflex points on the feet corresponding to the internal organs of the body. The foot massage can stimulate those points to promote general health and wellbeing.

A total therapy of any foot massage may last long from 10 minutes to about ½ hour depending upon the type of foot massage is given. Generally it might last for 30-40 minutes the therapists might spend some minutes massaging the hands and some times the shoulders in order to be a complete therapy.

This particular massage takes it’s origins from China wherein this art has been in use for over 5000 years, and Thai Foot Massage, as seen all over in Thailand today, has arose from the verdict and preaching of experts from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean foot massagers.

Foot massage as a part of reflexology

Reflexology is a complementary medical aid that works on the feet to help to relieve the congestion present in other relevant parts of the body. This is very gentle therapy and in use to help restoring and maintaining the body’s natural balance. The foot massage involves some points that are there in reflexology. In such science, massaging the feet will not only cure many diseases but it will also give pleasure and will take out all the lethargy and tiredness. However, reflexology is not capable curing any fatal or serious medical diseases and does not even claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe but as an alternative healing technique, foot massage and reflexology has promising results.
