Cystic acne is said to be one of the most severe forms of Acne vulgaris. Cystic acne may appear similar to that of a nodule in size, but here, the thing is it is pus-filled, and generally has a diameter of 5mm or more across. Cyst originates deeper in the skin than typical a typical acne. Such inflammatory lesions could be painful and normally produce scarring. The remedy for existing cystic acne followed by precautionary measurement for future acne is thus becomes necessary to avoid scar formations and to help healing of such acne scars that have already arose.

On the contrary to a common notion, squeezing an acne cyst may cause an even deeper infection and most painful inflammation can spread under the surface of the skin that lasts much longer and lead to the developments of additional cyst.

Cystic acne is generally found during the adolescent as severe expression of teen acne. Furthermore, cystic acne can also affect adults as a character of adult acne and hormonal acne or even body-acne.

Few of the great cystic acne treatments

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil helps acne though to a limited degree. If one has mild acne it may be worth giving it a look. Always, acne is to be prevented so that they don’t turn cystic. Tea tree oil is said to be blood purifier. However, the quality has to be checked before purchasing.

Vitamin A

High doses vitamin A do help acne however, such doses could be actually toxic at the doses needed to improve acne. Thus, topical ointment or lotion having a number of prescription creams containing vitamin A derivatives is preferred.

Colloidal oatmeal

If one develops irritation from harsh cleansing etc, colloidal oatmeal might have a calming and anti-irritant effect, especially in case of cystic acne treatment. It can also protect or minimize irritation. There are a plenty of gentle washes that contain oatmeal.

Fruit acid

Fruit acid also helps removing the top layer of dead skin cells. Such cells contain the root cause for acne and so the cystic acne. There are many facial treatments that contain such natural acids (alpha hydroxy acids - AHAs).

Another trusted option for cystic acne treatment

Isotretinoin is one of the most potent methods of treatment treating severe form of acne i.e. cystic acne that has not responded enough to other therapies. Isotretinoin is a retinoid that is a form of vitamin A. Isotretinoin would help treating all the four causative factors of acne establishment-

  1. Extra oils,
  2. Chocked pores,
  3. Inflammatory conditions, and
  4. The bacteria

The general course of isotretinoin is1-2 pills a day for up to 5 months. The dermatologist decides the dose and hence, one should not take Isotretinoin without medical supervision.

Many other health experts also try some oral contraceptives as cystic acne treatment in females. The pills suppress overactive sebaceous (oil producing) glands, and are quite safe to use for long-term. In addition to oral contraceptives, the doctor may advise some synthetic steroids to inhibit other hormones, which stimulate the sebaceous glands.

If oral cystic acne treatments do not work, they may require surgical approach - drainage. This is considered acne surgery and must be performed by professionals, in sterile surroundings. If one attempts squeezing or picking them, the infection may last much longer as compared to any normal acne. One might cause the infection to worsen and worsen the swelling also.

In other cases, where there are dramatically inflamed cysts, dermatologists might decide administering an injection having highly-diluted corticosteroid that brings down the inflammation and increase the speed of healing the acne wound/cystic acne. It is a normally painless procedure and it generally clears the cyst within 7-9 days and also help preventing rupturing and scarring. However, this could not be the first choice of cystic acne treatments by most of the skin specialists because it only treats the acute/fresh or current acnes.
