The birth of an infant, a baby, is one of the most cherished gifts that parents, especially the woman can experience. Mothers all across the world, even in animals, spend hours doting over their newborns observing each of the physical and behavioral characteristics. It is usual for all those mothers to detect that at around 4-wk of age, their babies may break out with little red pimples. This generally comes as a complete surprise to any of the mother. This mild condition is called as Baby Acne. At times it might be confusing since the acne come out strongly at times and then begin to disappear at others.
What and why are they?
Baby acne, as with all medical considerations, has some general symptoms. Generally, the acne would first appear like a rash with small pimple that is red in appearance. Sometimes, whitehead can actually appear too. The acne tends to show up more when the baby is upset or releases some body heat and at times they might even seem as though they are not there at all. Baby acne will clear up with times and are not something that those new mothers overly worried about. They are just there because of some physiological changes and hormonal imbalance in the body of the baby.
Baby acne appears on infants generally between the ages of one month to six months. Not all babies suffer from it but a most of them do. Baby acne generally appears on the cheeks and on other sites of the face. Doctors say that baby acne happens as a direct result of the hormonal levels of the mother when she is giving birth.
During childbirth and for a abrupt period of time before, the hormones of the mother are allowed passing through the placenta to the baby. This is essential because it stimulates vital, lastminute physiological development in the baby’s body. This is the development of vital organs such as maturing the lungs in order to prepare them to breathe air. These hormones that are very essential at this stage of childbirth also stimulate production of the natural oil in the baby’s skin. These elevated levels of oil in the baby’s skin are main culprit for baby acne.
Getting rid of baby acne
Though baby acne clears up on its own, many parents wish speedy recovery since the condition is bit graceless to the eye. The best class of treatment is daily cleansing. Once a day, washing baby’s skin using a mild soap and cleaning with lukewarm water works most of the time. Do not scrub affected area or use chemically made soaps. Both of such techniques might worsen the condition and might irritate the skin. The mothers should also not overdo the washings. Too many types of washing make the condition bad. One should use herbal soap or face-pack that is specially made for baby skin.
Another thing to be kept in mind to avoid any sort of skin problems including baby acne is not allowing spit-up, formula, or breastmilk to stay or dry on the baby's skin. Such liquids can chock-up the skin pores and result in the appearance of whiteheads, blackheads, and baby acne.
Some of the baby lotions having natural herbal extract can be used but only after the confirmation of tier quality and quantity. Mildest creams or lotions that contain innocent proportions of Aloe vera, turmeric, Indian gooseberry, almonds, and cashews can be used since they all are natural acne healers. However, it is better to consult with pediatricians before applying such lotions or creams. Though you are allowed to apply them, never rub them onto the affected area since it clog pores and worsen the condition.
Many holistic healers favor applying simple holy basil drops (from its leaves). They are natural cleanser and can heal baby acne condition. Prevention can be taken by wrapping the baby while going out. Never touching babies with dirty hands (use disinfectant lotions before touching them) and take care that baby should not remain constipated.
