Most of the working mothers will have to pump their breast milk as they can’t be with the baby all the time. Pumping is the only option left for the working women who do not want to feed their babies with formula. Pumps are also used while feeding a premature baby. Apart from collecting the breast milk, pumps also help in stimulating the mammary glands to produce more milk. Pumped milk can be stored in a refrigerator and can be fed to the baby the next day.

A pump should be chosen based on the following features:

  • Make sure that the pump that you are investing is an adjustable one. Pumps with this feature are comfortable to use as they can be adjusted.
  • There are also dual pumps available in the market that pumps milk from both the breasts at the same time. This saves time and creates same amount of stimulation on both the breasts.
  • Few pumps also come with the facility of storing the pumped breast milk. These pumps come with special cooler pack that stores the pumped breast milk. Mothers who do not have refrigerators at their working place can invest on these pumps.

There are many varieties of pumps available in the market.

Manual breast pumps: These pumps need manual effort to work. One major draw back of these pumps is that they can’t do dual pumping.Pumping with such a pump is also time consuming.

Handheld Battery-Operated breast pumps: These pumps operate with the help of batteries. The driving force is supplied by the batteries instead of hands and legs. Working women find them very useful as an electric outlet is not needed.

Electric breast pumps: These pumps need electricity to run. These pumps are specially designed to pump milk from both the breasts at the same time
