Dandruff is a simple scalp disorder and causes etching and excessive flaking of the scalp. It is really not serious but for most of the people, it can be embarrassing. Dandruff can easily be treated though in some cases it’s quite persistent.

Dandruff is also known as seborrhea, literally meaning too much oil. Dandruffis actually the flakes of skin that are continuously shed from the scalp. In our day to day routine, it is normal to shed some of the skin flakes which are dead. The skin continuously renews itself and new cells form in the lower layers of the skin. This is a continuous process and most of the time, the shedding of dead cells is not even noticeable.

There are many common myths about Dandruff. As believed, Dandruffis not contagious and is not a result of poor hygiene. It is just a faster turnover of the dead skin cells. Dandruff is not caused by the dryness of the skin. Infact, Dandruffis more common in the areas that have more active grease glands and the skin is not dry.

Dandruff can easily be treated with the help of specialty shampoo and cleanser. Use of shampoo does not cause dandruff but the use of right kind of medicated shampoo can definitely help. As a general routine, there is not set rule regarding how many times you should shampoo your hair. It just depends on your daily routine and exposure to dust, dirt, sunlight and pollution. The key is to keep your scalp clean but at the same time not over drying it.

Try not to use the products that can irritate the scalp such as hair gels and other such products. Don’t scratch, just massage. Scratching can damage the hair at the roots. It is also advisable to avoid dyeing the hair and use the shampoo that has tea tree oil.

If the Dandruffbecomes severe, you will have to get the professional help to treat the yeast. There are some special shampoos that take care of the yeast along with anti-Dandruff conditioners.
