It is a very tricky situation for new mothers. They are indoctrinated by whole world as to how important it is to breastfeed. When they are not able to breastfeed, it usually leads to feeling of guilt or depression. What you need to understand is that your physiology may make it impossible for you to breastfeed. There are a number of reasons why you may not be able to breastfeed.
At times it could be lack of lactation that will not produce enough milk in the breasts. This should not in any way be taken as unnatural and make you feel that you are not going to develop special motherly bond with your child. In such situations, feeling depressed is not the solution. All you have to do is consult your doctor and decide upon formula feeding with a bottle.
A number of mothers have not been able to breastfeed and yet there babies grew up to be smart, handsome people and responsible citizens. There is no reduction in motherly bond because even when you bottle feed a baby while holding him in your arms; a special bond develops between you and your baby.
When you are not able to breastfeed, it is not your well being that needs to be concentrated upon, but that of the baby who needs to be fed sufficiently by whatever means. Do not allow your inability to breastfeed due to whatever reason, a barrier in your effort to keep your baby well fed and thus healthy. Seek guidance from elders, nurses or a lactation specialist. You will find all these telling you that natural phenomenon can not be reversed and you have to put up with things as they are.
