Nirghatan (hammering): -

The process of hammering by hammer or hammer shaped instrument to know the exact position of pain or removing foreign body is the process of nirghatan (hammering).

Oja kshaya (Tonics or vitalizing agents for oja) :-

The term Oja can be described as essence of life. In Ayurveda text references this is called the basic of life for all the physiological activities in homeostasis. Oja is defined as para and apara Oja.

The para oja is situated into the heart in Ashtha bindu praman (eight drop measure). It is said to sustain life. All those drugs that are useful for Oja are called “Oja kshaya”. Milk, Amber and astrological usage of precious stones, like topaz, sapphire, spiritual process. Yogasana are Oja kshaya in action and effect. The AIDS can be resembled with the symptomatic descriptions of Oja-Kshaya (deficiency of Oja).

Pramathi: - Those drugs that specifically act on the strota (ducts, veins, capillaries) and remove the doshas toxins from them are called pramathi, Vacha and marica.

Poorana: - The process of filling up anus, vagina, wound cavity, or ulcers by using netrabasti (typical tube for Basti / suppositories) is called poorana. Poorana word means filling up.

Prakshaalnam: - Washing the wound by decoction or extract of different herbs.

Pradhmanam: - Putting medicine powder into ear or nose cavity by using a probe.

Prapidan: - The prapidan category drugs have specific pharmacological action of rupturing the abscess to drain the pus. Shalmali gana drugs by Susruta Samhita are taken under this category.

Rukshan (Scrappers): - This is antonym of the word Snehan and used in the sense of opposite to lubrication. All those drugs, which are mainly alkaline in nature, have tendency to import roughness to the body or scrubs the body.

Rijukarnam: - Aligning or relocating the fractured bone or ruptured wound living is called Rijukarnam.

Rasayana: - All those drugs, which destroy the disease and increases, strength, intellect and stamina of body, are said to be rasayana.

Ropan: - All those drugs which help in healing of the wound are called ropan drugs, bougies, ghee, Rasa and Kriya choorna are some examples of these.

Stambhanam: - that drug which stops the excessive secretion of blood, vomiting, bile and diarrhea are called stambhanam.

Sandhamam (Wound healers): - This drug category have specific property to fasten the healing of wounds, cut, abscess in the body, dhatki, mocharas and madhuk are some examples of this.

Snehopaga- (Oil therapy/Lubrication based benefic measures and drugs)-All drugs that are useful in the snehan (lubrication) process of body are termed as snehopaga.

Sneham (additives for softness by using oil / ghee based drugs): - All the oil based cream based drugs are taken to be Sneham drugs. This can be taken as drugs used for lubricating the body by external and internal use. All oils, ghee fat and marrow are taken in this category.

Swedana (Sweating): - All those drug which induces sweating are covered in Swedana drugs. The therapeutic measures of upnaah, parisheka, avagahan and sweda are taken in this category.

Utsaadnam: - Leveling up the wound by using drugs which quickly grow the flesh and tendons fibers allowing the wound to level up and heal fast.

Apamaarga, ashwagandha, taalpri Kakoliyadi Gana drugs are utsaadnam.

Unmathan: - This is process of finding out the foreign body by help of a probe.

Vimlapan: - All those drugs that have tendency to subside the abscess without pus pocket formation or rupturing it are called vimlapan drugs. Alasi is a drug used as “Vimplapan”.

Vivastan: - Expelling out the foreign body by using surgical instruments as forceps etc. is called vivastan.

Vuyahan: - Stretching up the wound or abscess by sides to see or remove the foreign body is termed as “Vuyahon”

Vaajikarna (Asphordic) : - All those drugs that are having property to increase sexual efficiency of man are called Vaajikarna. The Vaajikarna are classified into 4 subdivisions: -

    • Shukrul (Semen Increases)

    • Shukra pravartak (Semen Induces)

    • Shuksa Shruti (Semen Increasers and Inducers both)

    • Shukrastambhak (Semen Consistory improvisers)

Vartan: - The process of relocating or setting up the fractured / dislocated bone and ruptured wound sides at their suitable position by means of instruments is called vartan.

Varnya (Complexion improvisers): - The special category of medicine that is used to maintain and improve complexion and skin qualitatively is termed as varnya. It falls under cosmetic category of drugs. Chandana, madhuk and manjishta are a few example of this.

Vavyae: - those entire drugs that readily get absorbed in the body without being digested are known to be vavyae, like Alcohol.

Vikashi: - Drugs that have tendency to dissect the joints of the body by dissecting “oaz” from the dhatus are called Vikashi like betel nut and kodo are vikashi.

Vivarnam: - The process of cutting the wound linings so as to drain the pus and other things are called vivarnam.
