Massages in Various Conditions (Hemiplegia )
This is termed as “pakshaghat” in ayurveda. Paksha means the limb and ghat means hurt. When the limbs stop functioning and are hurt then the disorder arises. This is said to be pure Vata disorder.
Here the daily massage is strictly advised. The massage is usually followed by sudation. Simple sesame oil, narayan oil, bala oil, karpasasthyadi oil can be used for the same. These oils penetrate through skin and improve muscle tone, which is lost.
Procedure –
The patient is asked to lie down in a supine position. The massage is started to the affected part of the body. Usually anuloma is the direction (anu means opposite and loma means bodily hairs) means the oil is applied and rubbed against the hair roots over the affected part. The idea behind is the oil straightly goes into the skin and starts functioning.
The strokes should be on a one way and should not be done backwards. For instance if a hand is affected, one has to go from palm to shoulder and not come back from shoulder to palm. If 100 strokes are to be given, they are from palm to shoulder only.
After getting completed, the steaming is done to the affected area with herbal decoction and sometime with medicated milk. At some places an enema is given with medicated material. This material is composed of oil, ghee, honey, roots of medicinal herbs, rock salt and many other ingredients as per the diseases and diseased.
