Massages in Various Conditions (Headache)

Everyone faced headache as the commonest problem in life at least once. There are so many reasons that shoot up your headache. One of them is stress, anxiety and tension. When the things are going against one’s expectation then the tension arises and ultimately leads into the headache. There are other pathological factors like poor eyesight, vascular headache, migraine and so on.

Massaging on headache gives cooling effect, it helps in the blood circulation and calms down the aggressive mood. Any of the oil can be used but commonly coconut oil suites for almost all condition.

The person is allowed to sit on the chair comfortably in a silent atmosphere. Then the masseur puts the oil onto person’s head. There are three important spots on the head; the first is brahmrandhra – a soft part at birth that it anterior fontanel, which later on gets hard slowly, the second is the shikha – a spot where hairs at the top turning in the form of a whirl. Sometimes clock wise or anti-clock wise and lastly where the neck meets the skull – the place of the brain stem or medulla oblongata. While doing massage these spots are carefully massaged.

Technique –

The oil is poured at the first spot (brahmrandhra) and then spread over the whole scalp. Gently the circular movement is performed all over the scalp. Coming to second point – shikha the massage gets harder with some gentle strokes, here also the massage is done with clockwise rotation. Finally when you reach the third spot your hands are at the super grip of the neck from backside. Fingers are on the side of the neck and the thumbs are at the center of the back of the neck. With the oil, thumbs are rubbed from that center to the top of the ears on each side.

After that the massage is performed on forehead as described earlier. The gentle taps through out the skull along with the namaskar posture of the hands ends process. Palms facing each other with fingers totally loosen and separated is called as namaskar posture of the hands.
