Ligament
Ligaments are Shiny, flexible bands of fibrous tissue connecting together articular extremities of bones. They are pliant, tough, and inextensible.
In anatomy, the term ligament is used to describe three different types of structures:
- Fibrous tissue that connects bones (or two different parts of a single bone). They are sometimes called "articular ligaments", "fibrous ligaments", or "true ligaments".
- A fold of peritoneum or other membrane
- The remnants of a tubular structure from the fetal period of life
