Cold Massage

Usually usage of ice or ice-cold water is popular. As cold massage stimulates the arteries, begin with the head and move downward to the soles of the feet. Don’t as a rule; expose the whole body of the patient/client except the particular area or limb that is being massaged.

Requirement –

We need two towels, one for the cold water and the other for drying. Squeeze the water from the wet towel, fold it lengthwise and wind it around the right palm.

Method –

The patient is asked to sit so that the masseur can start massaging from the head can move down to the neck, face and shoulders. Immediately after the cold massage, the head is rubbed with dry towel. Now the patient is asked to lie face down so that the back, including the buttocks, can be massaged. Rub the back with a dry towel after massaging. When the patient lies on her/his back, cold massage may be given to the chest, abdomen, hands, legs and soles consecutively. The areas are rubbed then with dry towel after the massage.

After cold massage, soft massages are given with warm hands or application of talcum powder. Employ gentle wringing, clapping, stroking, tapping, and very gentle friction. As cold massage helps to dissolve body fat, it is advisable to give this treatment to obese patients. This massage is also beneficial for those suffering from skin disorders. The patient should rest for 30 minutes after a cold massage. Be sure that patient gets warm enough after the massage and before the same.
