Chiropractic
This system deals with almost all musculo-skeletal disorders. it does include spine and orthopedic problems.
According to them, most medical problem occurs due to subluxations. Subluxations are nothing but misalignment of the spine that allegedly interferes with nerve signals from the brain itself. However orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons or medicine physician never found any evidence for spinal subluxations. The chiropractors believe that by adjusting and controlling misalignments, nerve signals are restored and so the health problems.
A grocer from Devenport lowa D. D. Palmer propounded the first idea regarding this science. Many supports come by the testimonials of people who had undergone this technique and got treated with a great pleasure. However there are no scientific evidence for the same. It was just a manipulation by which they were fully treated. The major people had the most commonest complain of back pain and was treated by the chiropractics.
It is always been a controversy that subluxations have anything to do with back pain or that correcting these so-called misalignments by manipulation has anything to do with relief from pain.
Chiropractic believes that the body has got wonderful self-healing technology within in it and usually doesn’t require any medicines or surgery. The special manipulation on particular point unblocks the nerves so that the body can heal itself as the channels are getting blocked every time when body is diseased or hurt physically or mentally.
Chiropractic is just like a materialistic version of Chinese acupuncture used to unblock chi one of the meridian/channel, or therapeutic touch to channel prana (the vital force). The chiropractor's "needles" are his or her hands and fingers, manipulating nerves rather than the flow of chi.
Chiropractors – the achievers
Chiropractors rarely worked with medical doctors and they were almost never among staff in hospitals. The American Medical Association (AMA) made no bones about its disapproval of chiropractic, which was discredited by their Committee on Quackery.
The chiropractors fought back and won a lawsuit against the AMA in 1976 for restraint of trade. Now the American College of Surgeons sees the two professions as working together. Privately, however, many battles continue between the medical profession and chiropractic.
Some chiropractic colleges have a professional attachment with local hospitals or universities and some chiropractic students do internships in modern medical centers. Today, numerous of complementary medicine techniques are being allowed to support treatment aspect in these hospitals and medical clinics around the country without a word of protest from the AMA.
Chiropractors relied more on faith than on practical evidence in the form of control studies to back up their claims about the wonders of spinal manipulation. Chiropractors now claim to have many studies supporting the effectiveness of their science.
There are published articles that indicate that manipulation can be effective for the treatment of certain kinds of headaches and other pains, but the research never show that manipulation to all those channels is superior to common alternative treatments.
The theory may be self-evident but it may seriously harm children and adults by their risky procedures, some of which have even proven fatal. It is always advisable that pediatrics and pregnant women, to be on safest side either it should be done with a greatest precaution or it should be dropped.
In short, chiropractic always remains controversial. It is attractive because there is no danger from side effects of drugs, as chiropractors don't generally recommend drugs to their patients. It is attractive because it is considered as less expensive than treatment by a physician with drugs or surgery.
