Itching is a common problem that can be generalized or localized. It is due to several reasons. It is occurring with the skin lesion or without them. The itching is more painful and irritating to treat. It requires special attention and treatment. If the itching is having lesions than immediate checking is required. Normally itching is treated as independent symptom or diseases that requires attention of dermatologist. The itching can be divided into various types. Like eczema, scabies, and cracks due to seasonal changes are different types of itching. Some times it is characterized by inflammation and serous exudation also.

It is very often that the itching is caused due to the reflex of nervous system as physiological causes. It is supposed that itching can be due to stress, anxiety, and some medications that are irritating the bodily system. The anxiety and stress conditions aggravate the itching conditions. Some times it is due to allergies of different types. In many cases it is due to the skin diseases or reaction of skin or its reflex to any irritant. Among the causes dryness of skin is also a cause for itching. It may also due to the over exposure to ultraviolet rays and sunburn. The basic causes for itching is due to the metabolic disorders and endocrine dysfunction. This is because of the complications due to various systemic aliments like the liver and renal dysfunction. These are the noninfectious reasons and there are plenty of infectious causes for the skin diseases.

This infectious type of itching can be due to following reasons. It can be due to the fungal infections like the jockitch that is caused by the (tinea cruris) as well as itching of the private parts or due to the sexually transmitted diseases. There are certain itching conditions that are due to the contagious effect of water and other communicable aspects like the sharing of clothes etc. the swimmers itch, skin rash, and allergic reaction due to parasites can cause itching.

This irritating disease is very much painful as it is very hard to resist and it results in the scratching, which doesn’t end but increases after scratching. This develops in to irritating skin and causes more itching. The infectious itching develops more on scratching and worsens the conditions.

Some times it causes the skin rupture and develops the more sever infections. This in turn lefts the black mark over the skin. The urge for itching is often uncontrollable.

The treatments for itching are to stop the sensation that is the cause of itching and bloc the sensations that are causing. Normally it is advised to apply ice to the affected area. This is because it constricts the nerve endings and stops itching. This is known as cold application it can be in form of ice-cold water or swab or dry application by putting ice into plastic or rubber bag. There are variety of skin creams and ointments available for treatment of itching. These are based upon the category of the infection and the causes involved into it. There are different over the counter medicines available for itching. These medicines contain-camphor, phenol diphenhydramine and other substances. These are the substances that are acting on the infections as well as stop itching.

The use of hydrocortisone based medication is very common in treatment of the skin disorders because it is acting as CNS depressants and it helps to bloc the signal transmitted through the nerve fibers and hence hydrocortisones are very much useful intreatment of eczema and other catarrhal infections.
