Acne is the bane of our existence. No person, man or woman, ever escapes the onslaught of acne. We have all experienced acne at least once in our lives. Acne is a skin condition which is medically seen as a disorder, albeit a harmless one unless the condition takes up severe proportions. Acne is characterized by red spots on the skin. These spots are mainly pus-filled and are ugly in appearance. The spots often leave behind scars if left untreated. However, there is hardly any person who doesn’t take treatment for acne. Acne is caused due to hormonal changes in the body. These hormonal changes are mainly brought about by puberty.
Fluctuation in the hormones causes over-production of sebum in the sebaceous glands. Sebum is the natural oil produced by the body to keep the skin soft and supple. The extra sebum gets accumulated in the pores of the skin and tends to attract dirt and grime. When sebum, along with dirt and grime and dead skin cells, comes in contact with the oxygen in the air it gets oxidized. The accumulated dirt turns black in color on oxidization. This is called blackhead. It is this blackhead that ultimately forms acne if left untreated.
Treating acne is simple but requires effort. You can visit a dermatologist who will give you antibiotics and topical creams and gels to clear the acne. Medical treatment of acne takes about 4-6 months if you follow the treatment regularly. However, medical treatment along with the expenses of the medicines and the doctors’ fee can be an expensive affair.
And there is no guarantee that the acne won’t return. Your best bet would be to use natural home treatments for clearing acne. These home treatments are very effective and not at all expensive. In fact you can even follow up on these treatments after your acne is completely gone just to ensure that it doesn’t re-appear. Besides, natural remedies are completely without side effects.
